David Burgess joined the DeSoto Hills staff in 2016 as the Minister to Students. David and his wife Hannah met while in college but became friends while working together at Lifeway Christian Store years later. They were married in 2015 and now they work together to reach students for Christ! They have two children, Milo  and Leo. 

Bonnie has served on staff at DHBC as Preschool Director since 2012. Before joining the church staff, she taught briefly in private schools and later retired from DeSoto County Schools after 26 years of teaching Kindergarten. Her love for children, combined with her background in education, helps her teach preschoolers about God in a caring and meaningful way. Bonnie was married to the late Randy Jones for 54 years. She has 2 daughters: Kay, who is married to Chuck Davis, and Maurie, who is married to Brian Wright. Maurie and Brian have 2 sons, Jackson and Cooper.

Laura joined the staff at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in June 2010. Her dream for the children’s ministry is that it “should be founded on the teaching of God’s Word while impacting children and their families with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Laura and her husband Brandon live in Southaven and have two children, Addisyn and Nolan. When Laura isn’t hanging out with the kids at church, she enjoys spending time with her family at the zoo, at the park, or just about anywhere!

Hunter Smith was called as the Student Minister at Desoto Hills in May 2026.  Hunter has served in student ministry for over a decade across churches in Kentucky, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.  He and his wife, Sarah, met working Fuge Camps and have been married since 2018.  They have 2 kids, Hank and Edie, and a noble hound dog named Mavis.

Jennifer has played keyboard for the DeSoto Hills family since 1994 and now also serves as music associate. She teaches private piano lessons and also plays for Desoto Family Theatre and other area productions. She is married to Lee and has two sons, Jason and Caleb.

Marc works full time as a teacher at Horn Lake High School but has also worked as a part time staff member at Desoto Hills since 2004. Marc is an assistant with the Student Ministries, maintains much of the church’s technology and leads the Wednesday night services for the youth as well as our Sunday Evening worship services in the attic. He and his wife Jennifer live in Southaven with their daughters Riley and Keelyn.
