The Baby Blue Birds Have Flown the Coop

James Lewis A blue bird update from the Lewis’ backyard. The baby blue birds have flown the coop. This is a significant announcement in light of the fact that Sunday we will be honoring our graduates, most of whom will be leaving the nest either literally, or certainly figuratively, as a result of graduation. It is a turning point for all involved. Parents I don’t mean to belabor the point, but the whole purpose of having and raising them is so they can leave the nest and fly. The blue birds in my backyard know that, so there comes a point where they stop doing everything for the chicks (including feeding them) to encourage them to step out on their own. Right about now the analogy does begin to break down because once the baby blue birds leave the nest, they don’t come back. However, I can almost guarantee you that your babies will return with loads of laundry and a depleted bank account. Along the way, they just may return a little wiser and a little more grateful than when they left. The big blue sky has a way of causing you to grow up.

A Voice of Experience,

Bro. James
